Dark Age of Camelot leveling skills

Bots are less necessary than ever before, but are still ideal and required if you want max buffs. I'm going to make a list of things I wish I had known right away when coming back.

1. Leveling with quests in the battlegrounds is the fastest way to level on your own. You can pick them up in portal keep, they are mostly self explanatory. Do tutorial zone from level 1-10.

2. At level 40 you can do a glass quest in Oceanus, you get 2 quests each from 2 npc's. One is near the blue portal, the other is near the afrit stone/porters, behind them. You do a short loop, the map will show you where to go. I start with statues, then harpy, then afrit, then treasure chests.

3. During the 40-45 phase you need to port to leirvik and accept bg quests 3 times. The first is level 40, second round at level 41, and at level 43 you get a third and final round of them. You go complete them at level 43, and turn them all in, only having to complete once for 3 quests worth of credit/xp. This should get you to 45, but it might just get you close if you didn't have guild xp bonus. You can complete some more oceanus or bg quests to finish it off.

4. At level 45 you can go do pict quests, on hib and mid there is almost always a bg up, you get the quest at the main border keep (SF/DC/CS) and port to the other border keep (non NF side) but it'll make you port to a refugee camp instead. The bg killing is visible when you port in, you'll see the camp and where they setup the first time and know where to go. On alb I'm not sure what they do, but if all else fails, just do bg quests.

5. There are a limited amount of good items price wise these days, but their prices are high. Money is a lot easier to come by, via pict quests, and various other things. Making a cheap template is fairly easy, but making a good one is going to take some farming plat. You'll likely have met people to help you with this by the time you need it, but just know that dragon items/glass/etc are all much cheaper and easier to obtain. The summoners items, laby, ML10 items are the high money items now.

6. Classes are mostly the same as 2-3 years ago in a general sense, but there are some changes you'll want to get caught up on. The newest patch notes are probably the most needed information in that regard. Anything else I'd suggest asking someone. The balance of the classes is very similar though, it's just people's perception and use are a little different. I wouldn't necessarily say anything in the past 2-3 years has made one class un-useable or not if you wanted though.

I think that's a big chunk of the things I wanted to know, and have learned since returning. That information is generalized of course, especially the last one, but it'll help get you on the right page I think.

DAoC leveling is much easier now

A focused person can level from 1 to 50 in less that a single day /played. If the player sight sees, crafts a bit, goofs off a bit, etc. . . you can go from 1 to 50 in less than a week IRL.

Also, all expansions are free and included in the game download from the main Herald download sight. The only fee is the monthly sub cost. (Old install disks do not work anymore. You will need to use the download install.)

Here is a thread with lots of info and links. Here is another thread with some guides that the previous poster referred to.

Edit: Leveling with a bot is nicer than leveling without a bot, but bots are not as necessary anymore because Mythic put into the game some NPC buffers that give reasonably good buffs and even without a bot leveling is much faster than it once was.

Ywain server population is fairly good.

The following is a bit of info/quote from the above listed link Here

"Ywain info:
Server population was dieing and to help keep server population up Mythic was clustering servers together. As the player population continued to shrink, Mythic needed to continue clustering servers but they had a huge problem, the database of old characters was becoming so huge (on the existing clusters) the database was becoming unmanageable. Because the existing databases were so huge, Mythic could no longer combine the databases, which meant they could not form a new cluster (yet they needed to cluster the final servers together to keep the population up to keep RvR viable).

Mythic’s solution, create a new server that everyone, all active players, will transfer to (everyone transfers except Mordred and the Coop). There are 10 Ywain login servers that are just character holding areas. The 10 login servers allow players to transfer up to 100 old characters to the new server, but Ywain 1-10 is only one server.

The old servers will be maintained as character holding areas for returning players; so returning players can come back and transfer toons over to Ywain."
