DAoC: legal to change the files

I just want to tell you is why the files do change and when. I hope nobody will ever run in trouble.

A
the "client files" are all files covered by the patcher. so the "default*.ini" files are a part of the game client. BUT your personal "*.ini" files, screenshots, chat logs and stuff are NOT part of the client files. That's why you are allowed to delete and edit screenshots, to delete chat logs and so on. as a result of this, you are also able to copy that ini files between different computers and you are also allowed to modify this NONE client files to add spell crafting gems to your qbars. but the "default*.ini" files are different, they are still client files and if they really hate you they could punish you for editing them (i already said, i hope that will never happen).

B
you must understand how the patcher works, to notice that this DOES interfere the patcher. it does not do a look up on all files with every login. it only does so if there is a server side client file patch or if the local buffer file is missing. so basically the patcher is blind when talking about file replace / edit. you somehow abuse that behavior when editing client files like the "default*.ini". the alternative to that would be if they re turn on file check on every login... people hated it because some had to wait a very long time for 25000+ files to be tested... just delete the local buffer file and let the patcher do it's work and you will see it is going to replace the altered default*.ini files.

C
if you, mythic or anybody else created a file does not mater. only the fact matters that your files does not match the current live server patch. every modify to that live server patch file set is a violence to that "do not modify" rule.

D
mythic is or was reading VN boards and maybe even Mojo posts. but it's still you that has to ask if you are allowed to do something, not them looking all over the www to find tools that they may allowed or not.

E
the in-game support itself will tell you that you may try to delete your characters ini file in some cases. I had some strange crashes after login on only one specific character, and that's what the support told me first. why should they have a case like "broken character ini file" if nobody ever had problem with that? and back from my time as a volunteer on GOA daoc servers i also remember some crash problems with broken ini files.

Well DAoC is bad code in many parts. just log in with Atlantis ui and look into the ui. log and ask yourself why the default UI creates so much error messages
